Air Fryer Crispy "Fried" Chicken

This air fryer crispy chicken is juicy, golden, and tastes deep-fried — without the mess or oil. Perfect comfort food made lighter!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 lbs bone-in skin-on chicken pieces (thighs, drumsticks)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper optional
  • Oil spray avocado or olive

Method
 

  1. In a bowl or zip-top bag, marinate chicken in buttermilk for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. In a shallow bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, and seasonings.
  3. Remove chicken from marinade, dredge in flour mix, pressing to coat.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 380°F.
  5. Place chicken in basket in single layer; spray lightly with oil.
  6. Air fry at 380°F for 25-28 minutes, flipping and re-spraying halfway, until golden and cooked through.

Notes

  • Use gluten-free flour for GF version.
  • Brine adds tenderness — don't skip!
  • Reheat in air fryer for best texture.
